IW6 Speaker Reveal Pt 2 – Show me the money!

November 17th, 2011

Imagine being dropped into a foreign land that didn’t use money, or at least as you know what money was? Rashmi Rangan, executive director of the Delaware Community Reinvestment Action Council, Inc. did just that when she came to America. She viewed ATMs as those magic machines spewing cash and had no idea what an ATM card was. She finally got the courage to hold up the card and say, “This does some magic, tell me what magic it does.”

Rashmi will reach into her inner Steve Colbert and tell her funny tale of how she went on to learn the three R’s of money: real, responsibility and restraint.

Deadline Extended for Talk Submissions

November 2nd, 2011

The deadline for talk submissions for this month’s Ignite Wilmington was today at noon.  We’ve received a handful of requests for an extra day to submit, so we’re going to extend the deadline for an extra week (that’ll still give our speakers three weeks to prepare their talks).  We’ll be announcing the speakers and their talks next Wednesday, November 9th.

If you know someone who has a great story to tell or is working on something interesting, please have them submit a proposal.  Here’s the process to submit a proposal.

Speak At Ignite: Here’s How to Submit A Proposal

October 21st, 2011

We’re looking for great speakers for Ignite Wilmington #6.  If you’d like to give a talk or if you know someone who could give a great talk, here’s the process to submit a proposal.

If there’s something you are passionate about and you want to spend five minutes sharing it with an enthusiastic and supportive audience,  this is your chance.  We’re after a mix of funny and serious, social and personal, high and low tech, crafty, webby, environmental, quirky and mainstream. Making us laugh is a good thing, making us think is even better!  The only thing we insist on is No Sales Pitches.  To get an idea of the wide range of previous talks, take a look at the videos at http://igniteshow.com/

HOW TO SUBMIT A PROPOSAL

Drop an email to speakers (at) ignitewilmington (dot) com. You’ll need to let us know a few things in particular:

  • the title and description – what is the title of your talk, and how would you describe it?
  • the topic – what is the topic of your talk and your personal interest in the topics?
  • the key points – what are 2-3 key points of your talk.  You have five minutes; what are you focusing on?
  • the takeaway – what do you want you the audience to walk away after hearing your talk (not just the key points)?

That’s all it takes!  The speaker selection crew will be using the info in your email to evaluate your submission; please don’t be too brief or unclear.  Think your proposed talk through and communicate that to us.  We won’t be going back and forth asking for more information, so give it your best effort.

The deadline for submissions is November 2nd.  The deadline for submissions is November 9th.  Take your time and do a thorough job.

HOW WE’LL MAKE SELECTIONS:

We will  make an attempt to select a wide range of topics so that there isn’t much overlap in terms of content and subjects that were covered at previous Ignite Wilmington events.

In early November, we will notify the presenters chosen to speak. If you are selected, we will provide you with the powerpoint and/or keynote master slides so you can begin your masterpiece!  We want to give you as much time to prepare as possible.

If you’re on the fence about presenting…don’t be.  We’re happy to answer any questions you may have.  Ifyou have any questions, please email us.

Ignite Wilmington #6 Planning Underway!

October 3rd, 2011

Enough time has passed since the tremendously successful Ignite Wilmington #5 at the Queen Theater on Market Street. If you were one of the 350 some supporters in the audience, I sure you will agree that the night was one for the record books. How often do you hear about a trip to Pakistan and see a teacher of the year do a flip on stage?

Do you have something that you thought might be fun to share at an Ignite? If so, please let us know (ignitewilmington (at) gmail (dot) com! We are looking for 8-12 people who want to speak about their passion.

Does the prospect of public speaking scare you? Have no fear, Ignite Mentors are here! This time around, all accepted speakers will be paired up with a past ignite speaker who will show you the steps to turn your idea into a great presentation!
